March Rudolph Day

Today is March Rudolph Day.  I have a few things I need to do so I won't get off track this year.
Three goals this month:
1.  Money in the bank-check
2.  Look for four stocking stuffers and two Hermie presents today at BAM  and Michael's
3.  Try out a new cookie recipe.

Outdoor Wednesday

Today is Outdoor Wednesday, and I've started doings some gardening chores the past week here at Applejack Lane.
I've hung my new house flag...

and have started to access the winter damage in the gardens and yard.  We've had a very severe winter here in the Shenandoah Valley and some of my plants don't look so hot.  

Can this plant be saved???

My lavender plant is just completely flattened. Piles of snow buried  for about three months this winter.

Enter plant guru Andre' Viette into the picture.  Andre' is a nationally acclaimed horticulturist, author, lecturer, and radio personality who lives in the area . 

He has a weekly radio show on Saturday mornings called In the Garden in which he fields questions from a call-in audience about problems with gardens and landscape plants.  He and his son Mark are just exceptionally personable and knowledgeable. At least once a week other than Saturdays, he or Mark make themselves available to radio listeners in the area to further answer gardening questions.  That's where my lavender plant came in.  He suggested that I cut my plant back to about eight inches now and wait to see what happened. He thought it would resurrect itself.

Blue Monday

It's Blue Monday time.   I decided to pull out one of my daughter's dolls.  I haven't seen the box and tags in so long that I can't remember if this is Alice or Goldilocks.  She was not a doll child, but Baba thought she had to have a collection of Madame Alexander's just the same.

Vintage Alphabet Party

It's time for the Vintage Alphabet Party.  This month we are doing letters C and D.

With Easter around the corner, all eyes turn to candy so my letter C is for Candy containers.  At the turn of the twentieth century, candy makers used glass toys in various shapes as containers for their pellet-like candy.  These are in demand by collectors.  Candy containers with original paint, candy, and closures command a high price. 

Candy containers served to outline American history, particularly transportation. This horse and cart is pretty common...

March Hares

I noticed the March Hares were out at Applejack Lane just in time for White Wednesday.
