The Kahlo Chronicles-Part 2-Kahlo Goes To Work

Our buddy Kahlo went to the Hallmark store to help me with some late Father's Day shoppers.

When he got out of the car, he was eager to start the day and beat me to the door...

He had several duties this morning.

1.  Greeting each customer with a smile...

2.  Delivering excellent service to help our customers find that special card or gift...

3.  And policing the store to aid in anti-theft control...

A Blue Monday Wreath

Hello from Applejack Lane. For Blue Monday,  I want to share a wreath with blue and white porcelain ornaments that I collected a very long time ago. These ornaments are so very fragile that they remind me of Moravian cookies!  I have broken a few over the years.  This wreath hangs in our bedroom.

Blue Monday

Saturday morning, he arrived at Applejack Lane!  I had been waiting for over a week.  Brenda from The Rusty Thimble e-mailed me and said he was on his way. And then the mailman came up the lane and stopped in our driveway.  My husband brought in a box.
"What do you think this is?  he asked.
"Oh, it's here!"  I exclaimed.

Blue Hobnail Monday

It's Blue Monday again at Applejack Lane.   Last week, I started to do some cleaning in a bachelor's desk, and I shared some blue Bristol glass.  Today,  I have a few pieces of blue hobnail to show from that same desktop.

Collecting Blue Bristol Glass Vases

Welcome to Applejack Lane!  I opened a cabinet to do some spring cleaning and realized I had a collection of B for  blue Bristol glass vases.  I added a hand vase to the mix.

Snow, Snow, Snow!

We had about eight inches of snow here at Applejack Lane on Saturday. As I looked out the window, my gazing ball seemed to be wearing a snow  hat!

My "Hooking" Project aka Yes, I Am A Hooker!

It's still winter here at Applejack Lane. Several years ago, my husband gave me "hooking" lessons for Christmas, and I was able to complete several projects. Among the things I made was a rug.  I don't put it on the floor.  Instead I use it on the dining room table or place it on the step of our raised hearth.  Murphy the cat enjoys lying on it!.

A Blue Decorated Saltbox for a Blue Monday

It's another Blue Monday here on Applejack Lane. Today, I would like to share a piece that came from my mother-in-law that we display on our kitchen counter. It is a German porcelain salt box with a hinged wooden lid. It is underglazed with a blue decoration of canals and windmills on the front and sailboats on the sides. It has a hole for mounting on the wall. Although we don't use it for salt, we can find a number of uses for it today in our kitchen.

Blue Lustre for Blue Monday

Welcome to another Blue Monday here at Applejack Lane. If you have been following me for any length of time, you may have figured out that I like to collect antiques. Today, I want to share a blue lustre shaving mug that belonged to my great grandfather who lived from 1848-1912 in Highland County, Virginia.

A Metamorphosis-Blue Monday

Welcome to Metamorphosis Monday hosted by Susan from Between Naps on the Porch and Blue Monday hosted by Sally at Smiling Sally. Several months ago, I read a post from Cottage Magpie about making pillows in 10 steps. I finally got the courage to try out the process with some leftover fabric from my bedroom valances. Miraculously, they turned out just great. Thank you, Angela, for the instructions.

I used Waverly's Nassau Vine Toile in blue, of course.
I made two14 inch pillows with piping- no less- for the bed. Now I am anxious to find a matching check to make a couple more -one for the bed and another to put on a chair.

Blue Monday at Applejack Lane

Thanks for stopping by Applejack Lane for another Blue Monday. Since I just finished cleaning off the buffet and polished the tea service, things look a little presentable to show our pair of Bristol vases and blue banquet lamp. Actually, they belonged to my mother-in-law, and we are very proud to have them in our home today.

A Little Blue Slipper

Welcome to Blue Monday! Today, I want to share my latest church yard sale find. This is my little blue daisy and button glass slipper I found to add to my blue collectibles. The mold appears very crisp and sharp so I am hoping this is a good piece!

A Blue Quilt for a Blue Monday

Time to air out the quilts on this Blue Monday morning. This one has been in the spare room for much too long. The fold lines are much too evident. My MIL and I both collected quilts. This was one of hers. I think it is a variation of the Rose of Sharon pattern probably made somewhere between the 1920's to 40's. If someone knows the correct identification of it, please let me know.


This is a great day to hang out the quilt-a gentle breeze and subdued sunshine.


This is one white center piece with 20 appliqued flowers. The applique work is quite impressive with about 10-12 stitches per inch. You can see an overall quilt design as well on the white background.


These are two of my favorite colors-blue and green. In fact, we used blue and green as our wedding colors 38 years ago. If I had known then that my MIL had this quilt, I would have tried to use it some way in the wedding decor.
