A Ladies' Celebration

This week at Applejack Lane, my friends and I celebrated  Ann who retired from teaching earlier this month.  Her favorite color is blue so I added a little touch of the 4th of July in the mix.

A table set for four lifelong friends...
A change of service for a dessert course...
A salad fork, iced teaspoon, and ice cream fork was all that was needed for our luncheon repast...
The crystal pattern is Century by Fostoria...
Star napkin rings for the season...
The silver is Fontaine by International Silver.  This is my favorite piece-an ice cream fork to eat our lime sorbet...
Tiny blue forget-me-nots on an antique salad plate made by Carlsbad china from Austria...
Queen's Ann Lace and what my dad referred to as "blue weed"  for the centerpiece in an ironstone pitcher...

A cozy celebration.for my dear friend...

A Little Pink Card

Today on Pink Saturday, I want to tell you about a little free card you can get at your local participating Gold Crown Hallmark store...
that you can send to a friend. The message is to remind her that this is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and that we all need to have our mammograms!
Thanks for visiting Applejack Lane. Visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for more Pink Saturday participants.

Happy Birthday, Ronda!

Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.-Anonymous

Today is a very special day. It is my friend Ronda's birthday-her #!?%#! birthday. ( Shhhhh, we won't tell, but she is older than I am.) Ronda is the one pictured in the middle of this photo. She always has a smile on her face, a song to sing, and a laugh that is infectous and spontaneous. She often begins her thoughts with "Golly ding". She has been a friend since the beginning of our time on earth. We started out in primary class in Sunday School together, went to elementary and high school together, college together, and she was a bridesmaid in our wedding. She is one of those friends that you could call in the middle of the night in a thunderstorm, say I need help, and she would be there. So here's to Ronda on her birthday. May you count your friends instead of years!

In Praise of Homemade English Muffins

Friends are the most important ingredient in the recipe of life
.-
Dior Yamaski

I was not the most energetic of people Monday morning. I went to the doctor last Wednesday morning for my regular check-up, and by Wednesday night I had the beginning of a head cold. The weekend was a total washout. I just moped around the house with my scratchy throat and bulging sinuses. But Monday morning, it was back to work, bringing with me a cough that just couldn't seem to resolve itself. My husband brought me cherry Ricola's which did help to relieve the urge to bark into everyone's face. And the Germ-ex bottle was a necessity for good customer relations. But more importantly, Linda Jean appeared. Linda Jean-one of my dearest friends of whom I just don't see enough. We have been friends for over 50 years. Having a friendship of over fifty years would qualify us as old by other people's standards, but to us we are the same little girls that we always were-laughing, teasing, sharing, and chattering non-stop whenever we get the opportunity.
Linda Jean-one of the best cooks whose food I have had the pleasure to partake. Linda Jean-the marriage saver. Yes, that's right, the marriage saver. Meals this weekend were not of the gourmet variety. We didn't even get to go out to eat for our usual Friday night date. Enter Linda Jean-the baker of a half dozen of the most delectable, light, perfect homemade English muffins that anyone could sock a tooth. There was real food on the table last night! And we took her suggestion and had hot tomato soup along with the muffins and grilled spicy mini burgers. Um-um-good!
It's 10:00 in the morning, and I don't work on Tuesdays. But guess what? I'm having one the last of those homemade English muffins spread with melted butter for my mid morning snack. My cold feels so much better now. Thanks, Linda Jean! Friends are God's way of taking care of us.
